Lady Penrose

Description

A hand-carved lino print honouring Lee Miller (otherwise known as Lady Penrose) — artist, muse, and fearless war correspondent.

I watched the film last year (she was brilliantly played by Kate Winslet) and had coincidentally saved some images of her already as I thought she’d be good to draw. I really like her style, with the shaped sunglasses and hair scarf, and the pose says it all!

Taken from an original pencil drawing and then carefully carved into a lino block.

Printed with Cranfield Caligo ink onto Japanese Awagami silk pure white paper, with deckled edges. The ink is a lovely rich, dark brown called Van Dyke brown, one of my favourites.

Unframed. A5 size.
