Darling Buds

Description

‘Darling Buds’ is a small reduction print of a pretty bud vase, holding little snippets of flowers from the garden.

I have several bud vases and this is one of my favourites. It is made by a potter in Manchester called Frances Savage.

Frances was one of the makers I drew last year as part of a series. We had a lovely exchange of art – I sent her a lino print of her and she sent me one of these gorgeous bud vases. I was so thrilled!

I made the print alongside working on others as it takes a long time to do (at least 5 weeks, as there are 5 colours of layers that need to dry) – you start by printing the lightest colour of ink, then cut that away, and cut the next one. And so on.

The beauty/scary part is that you don’t really know what it will look like until you print the final layer. Plus it is a limited run as there’s no going back!

Taken from an original pencil drawing from a still life.

Printed with Cranfield Caligo ink onto Japanese Awagami silk pure white paper, with deckled edges. The inks include: salmon pink, Jaipur pink, dark green, pale yellow and Van Dyke brown.

Unframed. 21 x 26cm.
