I’d never heard of the St Bride Foundation in London but somehow discovered that the illustrator and printmaker Angela Harding was doing a talk there recently. I needed an excuse to go into London and this was the perfect one! What a great evening, I loved it. I started with a tour of the letterpress studio and printing my own postcard. Followed by Angela’s talk. She even came up and talked to me while we were waiting for it to start and we chatted about our Toast clothes and printing.
She was a real character, very funny, with lots of great stories about her life and creative work. Including her studios Thunderbirds 1 (funded by her first divorce), 2 and 3 as she called them! She was incredibly generous and passed around her lino prints and the blocks themselves so we could see the marks up close. What a treat. Not to mention when she started handing out merchandise and then prints at the end, amazing! I caught the tube home, clutching a signed print from the cover of the book The Salt Path which she illustrated.
Here are some shots from the evening. The last one is my print which is now framed, how lucky am I?!
